Need My Vocal Chords!

Shannon has had an impressive morning. She ate several food items that were the consistency of pudding. She liked the chocolate milk, cream of wheat and pureed peaches but the french toast was YUK! She also was able to clear her throat which means the vocal chords are somewhat starting to work but she is still whispering meaning not using the vocal chords. Because she has been doing the whispering for a couple of days now, and even though the clearing of the throat is there, they want to do a scoping test. If it needs to be done, we are good with that, however, if it is not going to be beneficial, I don't want her to have to go through it. She hates her feeding tube as it is and this test requires another tube being stuck down her throat. So as you think of Shan today, will you offer a silent prayer for those vocal chords to come alive strong so she can talk out loud and give a good strong cough as needed? Only Father in Heaven knows what is really needed but we definitely can ask in faith. Thank you all for your faith and prayers.

Last, physical/occupational therapy is still wearing her out too much. She needs more stamina. They plan to try a short term stimulas to see if that makes a difference in her ability to concentrate and continue her progress. No matter how big of jumps she is taking, the doctors and therapists do not want her to plateau even for a minute. This really is tough hard hard hard work for Shan.

  1. Shan,
After all you have been through, if they need to do the scope of your vocal cords, it's a piece of cake. I've had it done hundreds of times in the last 5 years, so don't let that bother you!!
Next time they do something that hurts just yell as loud as you can and tell them to stop!! I know you can do it!!

    Love you,

    Uncle Will

  2. I think we need to rename her warrior woman! I am very familiar with TBI and I am telling you she is doing amazing things! She is a fighter! It brings my heart great joy to learn of her determination and progress. A testimony of how important we are to our Heavenly Father---he knows she can fight through this and recover--he knows just how to help her;each of us can be worthy of the same tender loving care that she is being blessed with if we try as hard as she is!
